This course will help you, **in the final sprint of **AP Calculus, build the skills, knowledge, and test-taking confidence you need to succeed in getting a 5 on AP Calculus. Getting a 5 on AP Calculus is not easy. But with hard work and our help, you will be able to do it. Almost all of our students scored 5 points on AP Calculus, and we know what it takes to get there.

The best way to prepare for the exam is definitely to practice past tests. We have a long history of close collaboration with the College Board, and have purchased 17 previous full-length official AP Calculus exam booklets (2000 to 2016) from the College Board. **All these materials have become a golden resource for our students, who are the ultimate beneficiaries.**

**All problems from past **official AP Calculus **exams have formed our “big data” system. We have used data mining and predictive analytics to examine the types and the frequencies of questions in all these materials, and then completely “decoded” the **AP Calculus**.** We always show all the “secret code” cracked from the above big data to students, and teach them to totally grasp and “control” the AP Calculus. In fact, **for all questions on the recent **AP Calculus exams**, we can find their “ancestors” and “roots” from the old **AP Calculus** problems.**

Our philosophy is extremely different from most experts in that we concentrate on test specific strategy that students have* never seen in a traditional class setting*. The strategy is designed to save time, avoid carelessness, solve problems from past AP Calculus tests, and exploit the weaknesses of standardized tests, as opposed to spending valuable time on the conventional teaching of mathematics.

This course will include a discussion of the effective use of a graphing calculator to solve AP Calculus problems. We will also help students develop quick problem solving strategies and potent time management skills.

**Course Description:**

- Work with functions represented in a variety of ways: graphical, numerical, analytical, or verbal. They should understand the connections among these representations.
- Understand the meaning of the derivative in terms of a rate of change and local linear approximation and they should be able to use derivatives to solve a variety of problems.
- Understand the meaning of the definite integral both as a limit of Riemann sums and as the net accumulation of change and should be able to use integrals to solve a variety of problems.
- Understand the relationship between the derivative and the definite integral as expressed in both parts of the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.
- Communicate mathematics both orally and in well-written sentences and should be able to explain solutions to problems.
- Model a written description of a physical situation with a function, a differential equation, or an integral.
- Use technology to help solve problems, experiment, interpret results, and verify conclusions.
- Determine the reasonableness of solutions, including sign, size, relative accuracy, and units of measurement.
- Develop an appreciation of calculus as a coherent body of knowledge and as a human accomplishment.

There are two separate exams for AP Calculus. Scoring a five on the AP Calculus AB exam allows high school students to obtain credit for a year of college level mathematics. Scoring a five on the AP Calculus BC exam allows students to be placed in a course in college that is one course beyond that granted for scoring a five on AP Calculus AB.

Realistically, it is possible to score very well on the AP Calculus BC exam even if one is only enrolled in AP Calculus AB. AP Calculus BC covers all the same topics covered in AP Calculus AB and adds several new concepts which can be learned with our guidance in a few weeks. Thus, it is possible to take the AP Calculus BC exam and score a five with only the completion of AP Calculus AB. We will definitely help you get a 5 on AP Calculus BC.

Students earning a score of 4 or 5 will generally earn college credit, satisfy “in-major” degree requirements, and receive advanced placement as follows:

**AB Exam Score or AB Subscore of BC Exam:**1 semester credit for Calculus I**BC Exam Score:**1 semester credit for Calculus I, and 1 semester of credit for Calculus II

- If you score at least a 4 on Calculus AB, you will get

- Students with a score of 4 or 5 on the Calculus AB will earn

# About the Exam

### EXAM RESOURCES

The exam is approximately three hours and 15 minutes long and has two parts — multiple choice and free response. Each section is worth 50% of the final exam grade.

**Section I: Multiple Choice** — 45 questions; 1 hour and 45 minutes

This section tests your proficiency on a wide variety of topics from the Calculus BC course details page.

**Part A**— 28 questions; 55 minutes (no calculator)**Part B**— 17 questions; 50 minutes (graphing calculator permitted)

Total scores on the multiple-choice section are based on the number of questions answered correctly. Points are not deducted for incorrect answers and no points are awarded for unanswered questions.

**Section II: Free Response** — 6 questions; 1 hour and 30 minutes

**Part A**— 2 problems; 30 minutes (graphing calculator permitted)**Part B**— 4 problems; 1 hour (no calculator)

The free response section tests your ability to solve problems using an extended chain of reasoning. During the second timed portion of the free-response section (Part B), you are permitted to continue work on problems in Part A, but you are not permitted to use a calculator during this time. You may not take both the Calculus AB and Calculus BC exams within the same year.
