The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem solving skills. The problems generally increase in difficulty as the exam progresses. Usually the last 5 problems are the hardest ones.
Among the final 5 problems on the 2023 AMC 8 contest, there are 2 counting and probability problems: Problems 21 and 23; there are 2 algebra (sequences) problems: Problems 22 and 25; and there is 1 geometry problem: Problem 24.
- 2023 AMC 8 Problem 21 is the same as the following two problems:
- 2023 AMC 8 Problem 22 is the same as the following problem:
- 2023 AMC 8 Problem 23 is exactly the same as problem 22 on our 2022 AMC 8 mock test
In our AMC 8/MathCounts Prep Summer Session (Counting and Probability), we used 2019 Gauss Contest (Grade 8) #24, 2018 Math Kangaroo (Levels 5 and 6) #25, and 2022 AMC 8 Mock Test #22, as typical examples, to demenstrate the art of solving counting and probability problems. In our AMC 8/MathCounts Prep Fall Session (Algebra), we used 2010 AMATYC Student Math League #18, as a typical example, to show the strategies and techniques for solving sequence problems. When our students attended the 2023 AMC 8 contest, they already knew how to solve Problems 21, 22, and 23. Thus, luckily they only took less than 1 minute to answer these 3 questions correctly, and then earned 3 points easily!
